Culinary Camp Description

Do you have a budding chef or restaurateur looking for an exciting experience? Looking to grow your culinary skills so you can make more than just a dinner reservation? As you may have heard in the media, Virginia Tech students enjoy a wonderful dining experience during their time at college. We would like to share our award-winning skills with you and your family! There are four different camps to choose from.

Please note: All Culinary Camps are day camps, no overnight accommodations will be provided. For all youth camps, Camps will run from 9:00am-4:30pm each with pick-up and drop-off available from 8:30am - 5:00pm. Virginia Tech Dining Services will provide trained camp counselors to ensure the safety of your campers. All camps will require long periods of standing in a kitchen environment and campers will be expected to try all items prepared unless there are food allergy or intolerance concerns.

Basic Culinary Camp

For students who are 10-14 years old. Virginia Tech Chefs will be teaching the basics, including cooking techniques, nutrition, food safety, and more. The Basic Culinary Camp is scheduled for June 19 - June 23, 2017 and will cost $395. Click the link at the bottom of the page to register. Space is limited to 10 campers so register now!

Campers will:

  • gain hands-on culinary training;
  • learn to prepare different meals;
  • learn kitchen and food safety;
  • tour the kitchen facilities
  • learn about nutrition
  • and much, much more!
Culinary Camp

Advanced Culinary Camp

Dining Services will host a five-day day camp for students who are 13-18 years old. Virginia Tech Chefs will be teaching advanced cooking techniques, food safety, knife skills, and more. Campers should have taken the Basic Culinary Camp as a prerequisite. The Advanced Culinary Camp is scheduled for June 26 - June 30, 2017 and will cost $395. Culinary Camp

Campers will:

  • gain hands-on culinary training;
  • learn advanced techniques on grilling, tempering, roasting, and more;
  • learn kitchen and food safety;
  • and much, much more!

Advanced Culinary Camp: Baking/Desserts Edition

Dining Services will host a five-day day camp for students who are 14-18 years old and have some cooking experience. Camp is scheduled for July 31 - August 4, 2017 and will cost $395. Click the link at the bottom of the page to register. Space is limited to 10 campers. 

 

Camper will:

  • learn about Baking Ingredients, equipment and culinary math.
  • Basic and Classical Cakes
  • Quick bread and yeast breads
  • Pastry and Chocolates
  • Individual Desserts
Culinary Camp

Advanced Culinary Camp: Healthy Cooking Edition

The first mini-camp offered by Dining Services. This three day camp is for campers age 13-18. Camp will run August 1 - August 3, 2017 and will cost $250. Click the link at the bottom of the page to register. Space is limited to 10 campers. 

Campers will learn healthy cooking techniques, how to determine the nutritional value in the food they are eating, smart ways to make delicious food and much, much more. 

 

 

 

Registration and Payment for the Youth Camps

Each camp is $395/person and includes meals, a chef coat, and a chef hat. A $100 deposit is due upon registering for the event. Final payment of the remaining balance is due by May 25 for the Basic & Advanced Camp and by June 30 for the Advanced Camp: Baking/Desserts and Healthy Eating Edition. If final payment is not received by this date, the registration will be canceled so that a spot can be offered to others on the waiting list. If you need to cancel your registration, you will receive your deposit back if you cancel by May 15. After that, no refunds will be given.
