Individual Dining Plans

Dining plans are to be purchased by individuals, for individuals. You may, on occasion, take a guest to join you for a meal; however buying a dining plan to be used collectively by more than one individual, or used to pay for other individual’s meals on a recurring basis, is a conduct violation and will be dealt with accordingly.

Individual Dining Plans are non-transferable. 

Dining Plan Changes

Dining plan selections can be changed through HokieSpa under the Personal Info tab for a specified period during the summer months and during winter break. New students will receive instructions on how to access their accounts during summer orientation.

Spring Semester Plans

On-campus and off-campus students with a fall semester dining plan will automatically be assigned and billed for the same dining plan for the spring semester. Students may change their dining plan choice between semesters at HokieSpa. Off-campus students may cancel their dining plan online prior to the specified deadline.

Major, Mega, and Premium Flex Plans

If you do not spend all of your initial Flex Dollars by the end of the fall semester, they will carry over and receive the same Flex discount as long as you purchase another dining plan for the spring semester. Carry over/Roll over Flex Dollars will not appear in your account until the current semester's initial Flex Dollars are used. Initial Flex Dollars received with the purchase of a Major, Mega or Premium Flex Plan (either fall or spring semester) must be used by the end of the spring semester. Flex Addition Dollars purchases carry over from semester to semester as long as you are a student, and they will continue to receive the Flex Discount as long as you have a major dining plan.
 

Minor Flex Plan

If you do not spend all of your initial Flex Dollars by the end of the fall semester, they will carry over to spring semester and receive the same Flex discount as long as you purchase another dining plan for the spring semester. Rollover Flex Dollars will not appear in your account until the current semester's initial Flex Dollars are used. Unlike the major dining plans, you may not purchase Flex Addition Dollars and receive the 50 percent discount. You may buy Dining Dollars at any time and receive a five percent discount on each purchase. Flex Dollars received with the purchase of a Minor Flex Plan (either fall or spring semester) must be used by the end of the spring semester.
 

Commuter Cash

If you do not spend all of your initial $290 Commuter Cash by the end of fall semester, it will carry over to spring semester. All initial $290 Commuter Cash must be used by the end of spring semester.

Refunds are calculated from the date that your resignation is processed by the university or the last day of dining plan use, whichever is later. This may not necessarily be the last day you attend class or officially resign from the university. No refund will be granted for a retroactive/back-dated resignation for the current semester, or for a resignation that occurs during a previous fiscal year.

Major Dining Plans

Major, Mega, and Premium Flex Plan holders will be charged a forfeiture fee of $100 during the first week. Beginning in week two and throughout the remainder of the semester, students will forfeit the base cost and will be refunded any unused Flex Dollars remaining in the account.

Minor Dining Plans

For the $290 Commuter Cash plan, the refund will consist of the remaining dollars on the plan less a $35 forfeiture fee.

Minor Flex plan holders will be charged a forfeiture fee of $35 during the first week. Beginning week two and throughout the remainder of the semester, students will forfeit the base cost and will be refunded any unused dollars in the Minor Flex Plan account.

Dining Dollar Refunds

The University may refund the remaining balance on your Dining Dollars account less a $15 refund processing fee upon formal graduation or separation from Virginia Tech. Any amounts that are refunded from your Dining Dollars account will be forwarded to the Bursar's Office to be deposited into your student account. If you are not enrolled as a student and/or your account is inactive for 12 consecutive months, it will be closed. Dining Dollars are like cash; the University is not responsible for loss of Dining Dollars because of theft or misuse of your ID until the card is reported lost or stolen.

Dine with Faculty

Our Dine with Faculty program allows student dining plan holders the opportunity to take Virginia Tech faculty members out to eat on us. This is an opportunity for students to meet with faculty in a casual setting to discuss mutual interests and enhance the overall educational experience.

Dine with Faculty enables a faculty member to accompany a student to one meal per month at either D2 at Dietrick Hall or Owens Food Court in Owens Hall.

  • At our all-you-care-to-eat dining center, D2 at Dietrick Hall, the faculty member's meal would be free of charge.
  • At Owens Food Court at Owens Hall ,the meal would consist of a credit of up to $8.50 toward the total purchase.

In order to use the meal at these dining centers, the faculty member must:

  • Be accompanied by a student dining plan holder
  • Have a faculty/staff Hokie Passport I.D. card for our cashier to swipe at the register
  • Indicate to the cashier that he or she is participating in the Dine with Faculty Program

Students are encouraged to initiate the invitation with faculty members and utilize this opportunity as a way to meet with their professors one-on-one, outside of the classroom.
