Culinary Camp

Culinary Camp registration for 2023 will open late January/early February.

Culinary campers jump together as a group in Lane Stadium.

New for 2023! Mini-Culinary Camps

The same great experience from Virginia Tech Dining Services but packaged into a shorter program! The mini camps will be 3 days in length.  Camps will run from 9:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. with pick-up and drop-off available from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m..  Meals, a chef coat, and water bottle will also be provided for each camper.

 

Mini-Culinary Camp: Science of Food

May 30 – June 1, 2023

This three-day camp is targeted for students who are 13-18 years old.  Campers will learn the science behind their food. How does yeast make bread rise? What item can you add to your recipe to get it to bind together?  Find out under the direction of our Chefs! Camp will cost $250.  Space is limited to 12 campers.

 

Mini-Culinary Camp: Holiday Cookies

July 18-20, 2023

This three-day camp is targeted for students who are 10-12 years old.  Campers will make a variety of cookies in this halfway-to-the-holidays camp. Make dough, decorate, create icings, fruit fillings, and more! Sugar, eggs, and flour will be plentiful in the kitchen. Camp will cost $250.  Space is limited to 10 campers.

 

Culinary Camp Description

Do you have a budding chef or restaurateur looking for an exciting experience? Looking to grow your culinary skills so you can make more than just a dinner reservation? As you may have heard in the media, Virginia Tech students enjoy a wonderful dining experience during their time at college. We would like to share our award-winning skills with you and your family! There are four different camps to choose from and two new mini camps.

Please note: All Culinary Camps are day camps, no overnight accommodations will be provided. For all week-long camps, programming will run from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day with pick-up and drop-off available from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.. Virginia Tech Dining Services will provide trained camp counselors to ensure the safety of your campers. All camps will require long periods of standing in a kitchen environment and campers will be expected to try all items prepared unless there are food allergy or intolerance concerns.

Campers and staff will be required to follow all additional sanitation and safety guidelines, including masking and distancing guidelines when needed to comply with VT, local, state, and/or federal guidelines. 

 

Culinary Camp 100

June 5-9, 2023 

July 10-14, 2023

For students who are 10-12 years old. Virginia Tech Chefs will be teaching the basics, including cooking techniques, nutrition, food safety, and more. Culinary Camp 100 will cost $450. Space is limited to 12 campers.

Campers will:

  • gain hands-on culinary training;
  • learn to prepare different meals;
  • learn kitchen and food safety;
  • tour the kitchen facilities
  • learn about nutrition
  • and much, much more!

Culinary Camp 200 

June 19-23, 2023

Dining Services will host a five-day day camp for students who are 13-18 years old. Virginia Tech Chefs will be teaching advanced cooking techniques, food safety, knife skills, and more.  Culinary Camp 200 will cost $450. Space is limited to 12 campers. 

Culinary Campers learn how to toss pizza dough into the air and catch it.

Campers will:

  • gain hands-on culinary training;
  • learn advanced techniques on grilling, tempering, roasting, and more;
  • learn kitchen and food safety;
  • and much, much more!

Culinary Camp: Baking/Desserts Edition 

June 12-16, 2023

Dining Services will host a five-day day camp for students who are 13-18 years old and have some cooking experience. Camp will cost $450.  Space is limited to 10 campers.

  • Quick bread and yeast breads
  • Pastry and Chocolates

Culinary Camp: Food Truck Edition

July 24-28, 2023

This five-day day camp is targeted for students who are 14-18 years old.  Campers will create menus and learn how to cook on one of Virginia Tech's state of the art food trucks. Campers will compete to see who can prepare, market, and serve the best dish during this week long camp.  Camp will cost $450.  Space is limited to 10 campers. 

Registration and Payment for the Youth Camps

Each week-long camp is $450/person. Mini-camps are $250/person.  All camps include meals, a chef coat, and a hat. Full payment is due upon registering for the event.  If you need to cancel your registration, you will receive your payment back if you cancel by May 1. After that, no refunds will be given. (Program and schedule are subject to change.)
